The most skillful and talented punters that usually look through progressive jackpots tracking service probably know that Swedish online gambing platform provider Net Entertainment’s flagship Mega Fortune jackpot is equal now €7.5 million mark. This is quite more than one of the previous jackpots, that has been won in February and contained €5.3 million, as well as this sum is larger than average usual victory with €4.8 million.

Actually in line with the statistics the jackpot is now more €7.7 million mark and probably could exceed €8 million in the following two weeks.

When you explore the games for slots in an online casino, you will realize that most of them are video slot. The video slots are different from the regular slots. The first difference you will notice is that the video slots have 5 reels meanwhile the regular slots only have 3 reels. There are other differences, but they need to be explained.

The video slots have multiple paylines. The usual for the video slots is to have from 9 to 25 paylines, that number might go up to 100 in some video slots. You can place a bet in any payline. Commonly, the bets are placed on the spot aside the reels, there you can find a number for each payline, to place the bet just click the line you like; the paylines go vertically. When you play in a multi line slot, the paylines go zigzag all over the reels. You can choose the amount of coins you want to bet, the denomination of the coin and the amount of paylines you want to play, the product of these three features is the amount of the bet. The paylines you chose are the only ones that appear on the payout table. The other paylines don’t mind.

In the payout table you can see all the combinations that make you win. You win if the payline selected hit at least one of the combinations listed in the payout table. You can find the amount of the payout next to the winning combination on the payout table. In a standard combination you can win for example 100 coins, this means that you win a 100 coins for each and every coin you betted. So, if your final bet were 3 coins that mean your total prize is 300 coins. Remember you can also choose the coin denomination, in this case, if you, for instance select $2.00 as coin denomination, you will win $600 (2×300). You will get an individual payout for every winning combination you hit.

Hitting a winning combination on the reels is not the only way to win in the video slots. There are special paylines that take you to bonus games. These bonus games, often, are played on a second screen. There are different bonus games, they can be based on the picking a box game, lotto or they can be skill games. Usually, if you win a bonus game you receive a number of credits that are added to your gaming account, and you can bet them. There are also some paylines which lead to free spins. In free spins you don’t have to bet anything, during the free spins the bet amount is equal to the amount you bet when triggered the free spins.

The senior United States Senator from Ohio has expressed his disagreement and dismay with the current state governor’s stance on gambling within the state. Senator George Voinovich, a former Ohio governor and mayor of Cleveland, stated that Governor Ted Strickland has changed his stance on allowing slot machines to be set up at the state’s horse racing tracks. Senator Voinovich has been a long-time opponent of legalized gambling in the state.

Senator Voinovich, a Republican, had previously allied himself with Governor Strickland, a Democrat, to oppose any measure that would lead to the expansion of gambling in Ohio. The two politicians joined together to stop a gambling proposal on a statewide ballot in 2006. They also both spoke out on another proposal available to voters in 2008. Both ballot initiatives were voted down.

However, due to the recent economic recession and the heavy job losses incurred by industries within the state, officials were facing a budget crisis due to the severe shortfall in tax revenue. With that in mind, the state legislature approved a plan this past summer to allow the state’s seven racetracks to install up to 17,500 slot machines. The Ohio Lottery Commission will oversee the operation of these new machines.

A spokesperson for the governor stated that the option of using the slot machines to generate tax revenue was much more preferable to the other choice of raising taxes on citizens that had recently lost their jobs. The governor’s office also said that slot machine revenue was the best option available and that officials expect to bring in almost US$1 billion into the state’s treasure in the next two years.

Senator Voinovich stated that he understood Governor Strickland’s dilemma, but that he would have opted to raise taxes, as he did as governor in 1992, rather than allow for expanded gambling in the state. Senator Voinovich also expressed his fears that the slot machines would be available to underage players and would harm area families. He has also opposed a new measure to allow for casino gaming in the state.

Whether you love or hate Phil Hellmuth, it’s hard to argue with his latest cause: the Holdem for Heroes charity. For once he’s putting his big mouth to good use by hosting the charity’s annual celebrity tournament which is scheduled to take place in Arizona on November 19-21 at the Fort McDowell Casino. Let’s hope Hellmuth’s money making skills are as good when they’re serving someone other than himself!

All kidding aside, Hellmuth helped the charity to raise over $500,000 at last year’s event. Holdem for Heroes is a poker-oriented offshoot of the TASER Foundation for Fallen Officers which provides financial and educational support to families of officers lost in the line of duty. The charity raises additional money through private donations, auctions and a celebrity golf tournament, but for the last five years Holdem for Heroes has been one of their most lucrative fundraising endeavors.

This year, Hellmuth will be joined by country star and official TASER Foundation host Mark Wills as well as a slew of other poker pros, musicians, professional athletes and TV stars (like Montel Williams, Young MC and Kevin Sorbo). You can compete with the stars for as little as $115 or as much as $1000. Half of all the entries will go to the TASER Foundation. Event winners will walk away with a chunk of change and a seat at a final table that will compete for a paid entry to the WSOP’s $10,000 Main Event.

William Shane Anderson, a thirty-nine year-old resident of Middletown, Delaware, was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to conducting a non-state-sanctioned gambling game and state income tax evasion.

Local police arrested Mr. Anderson in February 2008 after they received complaints from neighbors about the numerous vehicles parked near his residence. Police obtained a search warrant after they learned of the poker games Mr. Anderson ran from his basement.

Initially, police and prosecutors claimed that Mr. Anderson conducted high-stakes poker games from his upscale home. According to the prosecution, these games also had an ATM machine so that players could get more money with which to gamble, as well as topless waitresses from a local strip club. Mr. Anderson admitted that the games were for high stakes but also said that there were never any topless waitresses serving drinks to players.

Prosecutors also sought to pursue an indictment of thirty-eight counts against Mr. Anderson, including one for child endangerment due to the supposed atmosphere of gambling and topless women in his home. Mr. Anderson and his attorney, Joe Hurley, were able to get all but the final two charges dismissed. A spokesman for the district attorney’s office denied claims that the charges were exaggerated and that they were satisfied with the results.

Mr. Anderson also stated that he felt vindicated by the end of the prosecution. He said that the games at his home had a “family atmosphere” and that at least one member of law enforcement played in the game on a regular basis. He said that the reason that officers assumed that he had topless women acting as waitresses in his games is that his now ex-wife Laurie once worked at a nearby strip club.

Middletown Chief of Police Hank Tobin defended his officers’ actions and said that the charges against Mr. Anderson were not exaggerated. He said that most local home poker games do not offer players services such as ATM machines, valet parking and payouts through the online payment processor PayPal. Some pots in Mr. Anderson’s game were thought to be well over US$20,000.

888 Plc., the biggest name in online gaming around the world, has inked an agreement to offer its online gaming expertise to land-based casino giant Harrah’s Entertainment, owners of casinos such as Caesars Palace, Bally’s and the Rio, as well as the World Series of Poker, the largest and most prestigious series of poker tournaments in the world.

In 2006, the US Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) as a small, undebated part of a port security bill. Since then, operators of online gaming sites have either pulled out of the lucrative American market or faced stiff legal challenges. With 888’s partnership with Harrah’s, Mr. Batram speculated, the door that the UIGEA shut could be reopened sometime early next year.

Nick Batram, a financial analyst with the London firm of KBC Peel Hunt, stated that he considered the deal to be very good news for US-based online gaming customers. He said that the deal was “transformational” and that, rather than allowing full-blown legalized online gaming to Americans, that 888 would be acting as a “service provider” to Harrah’s, offering their extensive experience in the online gambling field.

A press release from 888 stated that they had created a working arrangement between Harrah’s and 888’s Dragonfish subsidiary. Dragonfish would help Harrah’s launch their World Series of Poker and Caesars Casinos brands in the UK market. Dragonfish would also tap 888’s knowledge of online casino software by creating sites that carried the WSOP and Caesars brands, accessible to UK-based customers. Dragonfish would also coordinate online payment systems for these sites.

When the UIGEA went into effect, 888 retreated from the US market and lost more than twenty-five percent of its annual revenue from the previous year. Now, with this agreement and new laws working their way through Congress, 888 has put themselves in prime position if the US market reopens for online gaming. 888 also has deals in the works with several other US-based companies in preparation for such an event.

For the first time in over three decades, gamblers last Thursday could visit “racinos” in the state of Delaware and place bets on their favorite National Football League teams. With the start of the National Football League season, punters from all over the northeastern United States could put down a bet on the season-opening contest between the Tennessee Titans and last year’s Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

The good news is that players could start making bets on Thursday. The bad news was that they could not collect any winnings until after the Sunday slate of games. This delayed payment is due to the fact that only “parlay” bets are allowed at Delaware gaming establishments. Bettors must place bets on at least three games and win all of them to collect their profits.

As a result of lawsuit brought by the professional sports leagues and the National Collegiate Athletic Administration, the state cannot offer single-game wagering. The appeals court that heard the case decided that the state’s three gaming centers could only offer parlay bets on NFL matches rather than the more popular (and profitable) option of single-game wagering.

Ed Sutor, Chief Executive Officer of Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, stated his belief that many of his customers will be interested in placing parlay bets during the first few weeks of the NFL season, which will conclude on February 7, 2010, in Miami at Super Bowl XLIV. Another executive with Dover Downs expressed disappointment with the ruling and concerns about the new complex built to handle sports betting customers.

Traditionally, the amount of money bet on the Super Bowl is higher than on any other single-day sporting event in the world. Under the current rules, Delaware casinos will not be allowed to offer bets on the Super Bowl or on any college football games, such as New Year’s Day bowl games and the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game. The ruling also bars betting on professional baseball and basketball games.

Following the ban of live poker tournaments in Italy, last Friday a new Facebook group entitled “Pokeristi Sportivi Uniti” (Poker Tournament Players United) was created. The group is composed of poker tournament players, poker fans, and friends and is completely autonomous and independent of any Federation or association.

The aim of the group is to find a temporary solution to overcome the ban imposed last Friday on live poker tournaments in Italian poker clubs. The ban comes directly from the Italian Home Office and results from the fact that rules on requesting authorization(s) to organize live poker tournaments have yet to be defined. In the meantime, a hard line has been therefore applied: no live poker tournament allowed in Italy

“Numbers are impressive”, says Giangia Manelli, one of the founders of the movement “when we created the group the aim was to defend small tournaments organized by local clubs with 30 euro buy-ins. In these kind of tournaments, laws have always been respected, with a bit of flexibility due to the small size of the organizing clubs, and now the total ban of live tournaments risks causing the growth of illegal tournaments.”

The reasons for this drastic measure are unclear. Why didn’t they wait for the new regulation on authorizations to be ratified? Was it a mistake made during the preparation of the law? Was someone not paying careful enough attention?

“I can’t answer these questions, but I can say that the numbers of our Facebook Group “Poker Tournament Players United” sent a clear message: 1.500 participants in the first 24 hours, doubled the day after. Today is Monday and despite the weekend, people worked on the group which reached 4.600 participants. This shows how important this issue is to Italian people, and the strength of means such as the Internet and Facebook, which made all this possible.”

Numbers are significant, but did you register any reaction against your initiative? Maybe someone who thinks that the ban is a justified measure…

“We have had no adverse reactions! We only had 3 messages of people who considered it excessive to receive 1 message a day from the Group, a request from pokerroom.com to administer the group, some advertisements and some mischief makers, that we found out are working for online poker rooms. Being coherent in Italy is a matter of creativity”

What will be “Poker Tournament Players United” next moves?

“We are still in a phase of building the group and it is important to be united. Among our members there are lawyers, managers, journalists, politicians and also people who can pull the right strings to try and obtain a temporary solution until the new regulation is in force. For the time being, we want to work with the institutions to find a lawful solution. I want to take this chance to thank all the participants in the group. We will go ahead united in the passion for poker tournaments.”

From all the GamblingPlanet team, we’d like to wish good luck to Giangia Manelli and the Group “Poker Tournament Players United”. Thank you very much for your initiative.
